Why Ravello is Perfect for Your Summer Engagement Photos

Planning summer engagement photos along the Amalfi Coast? Let me tell you why Ravello should be at the top of your list! As an Italian destination wedding photographer, I have photographed countless couples throughout the Amalfi Coast and of course lived in Ravello my entire life! This charming hilltop town is hands down one of the best spots for capturing incredible images during the warmer months.

Why I Love Working in My Hometown

This is the place I grew up and fell in love with photography! Being 100% local on the Amalfi Coast means I know every street, every garden path, and exactly when that perfect light hits each location. There’s something incredibly special about sharing my hometown with couples from around the world and watching them discover this place just like I did!

What Makes Ravello Special

The light in Ravello is seriously incredible all day long. Unlike some coastal towns where you’re racing against harsh midday sun, Ravello’s elevated position creates beautiful, soft light from morning until evening. The city center is much bigger than you’d expect, giving us endless variety – from intimate alleyways to grand piazzas, ancient doorways to panoramic terraces.

Ravello is the most quiet and charming village on the Amalfi Coast, which means we can take our time without fighting crowds. It’s authentic Italian life at its most elegant, perfectly preserved but completely liveable.

The Perfect Couple for Ravello Sessions

You’ll absolutely love Ravello if you’re drawn to:

  • Authentic Italian charm over touristy hotspots
  • Architectural details and historic character
  • Variety in photo locations within walking distance
  • Quiet, intimate moments without crowds
  • Editorial-style photos with incredible backdrops

Couples who appreciate the slower pace of Italian life and want photos that feel both timeless and editorial find Ravello absolutely perfect.

My Favorite Photo Locations

After years of photographing couples here, these spots consistently deliver:

Private Villas and Gardens: Numerous private villas with terraced gardens offer incredible variety – from intimate corners to sweeping coastal views. Villa Cimbrone gardens are famous for good reason, but there are hidden gems throughout town!

The Main Square (Piazza Vescovado): This central piazza gives us that classic Italian town square feel, complete with cathedral steps and charming cafes. Perfect for candid, walking-through-town moments.

Public Gardens: Villa Rufolo’s gardens offer different textures and backdrops, from manicured hedges to wild coastal views. Each garden has its own personality and lighting.

The Town Itself: Ravello’s narrow streets, ancient archways, and stone staircases create endless opportunities. Every corner offers something different.

Insider Tips for Summer Engagement Photos

Timing is Everything: While the light is beautiful all day, I love shooting in early morning (fewer people, soft light) or late afternoon (golden glow). Summer means longer days, so we have plenty of flexibility.

Dress for Comfort: Those cobblestones are charming but not heel-friendly! Comfortable shoes are essential. For outfit inspiration, check out my complete guide to Amalfi Coast engagement outfits.

Embrace the Variety: Plan for multiple looks – with so many different backdrops within walking distance, we can create diverse photos that tell the full story of your Ravello experience.

Stay Hydrated: Summer heat is real! I always bring water and plan routes that include shaded spots for breaks.

Your Ravello Questions Answered

What’s the best time of year for summer engagement photos in Ravello?

June through early September offers the most reliable weather and longest days. July and August can be hot, but the extended daylight gives us amazing flexibility. Late May and early October are also gorgeous with summer-like weather and fewer tourists.

How long should we plan for our Ravello engagement session?

Two to three hours is ideal. This gives us time to explore multiple locations, capture different moods and lighting, and take breaks in the shade when needed. The variety available here means we can create a diverse gallery without feeling rushed.

Can we include both Ravello and other Amalfi Coast locations?

Absolutely! Ravello’s central location makes it easy to combine with Positano or Amalfi for couples who want the full coastal experience. However, many couples find that Ravello alone offers so much variety that they prefer to focus entirely on capturing this special town’s unique character.
