Why Lago di Braies Is So Special
Lago di Braies is in South Tyrol, in the Italian Dolomites, and honestly, you don’t need to add much to make it beautiful.
The lake and mountains already give you an incredible backdrop. You can keep things simple, exchange your vows by the water, walk along the lake afterwards, and spend some time exploring together.
For me as a photographer, locations like this are so much fun because we’re not limited to one spot. We can wander, stop when the light looks good, take portraits along the trails, and let the surroundings become part of the photographs.

For Couples Who Would Rather Be Outside
If a big traditional wedding isn’t really you, Lago di Braies offers something completely different.
An elopement in Italy here would be perfect for a couple who loves being outside, exploring new places, and wants the day to feel like an experience rather than a packed wedding timeline.
You don’t have to spend the whole day posing for photographs either. Go for a walk around the lake, bring a picnic, explore the trails, or simply find somewhere beautiful to sit together and take everything in.

One of the best parts about travelling to the Dolomites is that your wedding doesn’t have to be the only thing you do while you’re here.
You could spend a few days hiking, exploring nearby mountain towns, eating plenty of good Italian food, and making an actual trip out of your elopement in Italy.
That’s something I personally love about travelling around Italy too. Give me a long walk somewhere beautiful followed by a really good meal and I’m happy. Preferably pizza or eggplant parmigiana!
You could even bring your dog along for part of the adventure. My Golden Retriever, Spritz, has had my heart completely since 2021, so I’m always happy when a dog makes an appearance during a couple’s celebrations.
It’s these little pieces of your real life that can make the experience feel much more like you and your partner!
